Teeth that are right for you

You may wonder why some dentures look like real teeth while others have the obvious appearance of a denture. This is not by chance, but has to do with three main factors.

* The shapes of the teeth

* The colors and surface texture of the teeth

* The placement of the teeth

Ivoclar denture teeth are designed to look like natural teeth with gender specific tooth shapes and colors that complement

the age and personality of the patient.

Depending on your needs, your dental team can choose from a selection of available tooth shapes and a variety of materials, such as highly durable acrylic resin or Nano hybrid composite that resist wear, chipping, cracking, and staining. Advanced layering techniques make Ivoclar Removable denture teeth look amazingly life-like by replicating the depth and beauty of natural teeth. In fact, they're made by the same company that manufactures the state-of-the-art dental products and materials that make TV's most amazing smile makeovers possible.

Personalised Smile

The placement of the teeth is also very important to create a natural smile and this is determined by aesthetic guidelines taken from your facial features. Your dentist is committed to using a proven and reliable system in

gathering these guidelines and has been trained to use the lvoclar Removable Smile Design Kit™ to create a smile that is personalised just for you.

Better Fit and Function

The science behind a better denture is not just in the denture teeth, but also in the pink tissue or (gum) portion of the denture called the denture hase. During conventional processing the acrylic denture base shrinks. This shrinkage can cause warping that leads to sore spots

and a loose fitting denture. You can feel insecure when doing everyday things like smiling or eating.

SEMCD Digital BPS Dentures

Lower denture wearers have long since struggled with conventional lower dentures that have been associated with a host of problems including looseness while speaking and eating, misalignment and movement when opening your mouth and general pain and discomfort throughout the day. These problems are rooted in the way the lower jaw functions as it has been difficult to achieve a complete seal as tongue and cheek movements are necessary. However, this all changed in 1999 when Dr. Jiro Abe revolutionised denture technology with his lower suction denture technique. Dr. Abe’s Suction Effective Mandibular Complete Dentures or SEMCD Dentures for short utilise the soft tissue in your mouth to create a stronger seal. Offering patients, a mandibular suction effective denture that actually stays in place when you need it to.

Everything you Need to Know About SEMCD Dentures

How do SEMCD Dentures Work?

Prior to Dr. Abe’s landmark breakthrough with lower suction dentures, patients often had to use dental adhesives to hold mandibular dentures in place for periods of time. Patients often complained that the taste of the adhesives lead to appetite loss and that the adhesives did not stay in place for very long, leading to constant need to reapply the adhesives. SEMCD Dentures do not require the use of dental adhesives or implants to stay in place but achieve this through perfect suction. Dr. Abe developed the lower suction denture technique where the impression method captured the natural shape of a patient’s oral cavity, because the dentures could now fit perfectly, a strong seal was formed creating the suction necessary to keep them in place.

How do SEMCD Dentures Differ from Conventional Dentures?

There are a two key differences between lower suction dentures and conventional dentures. In terms of design, conventional dentures tend to have a large and bulky base that can be heavy and uncomfortable. Lower suction dentures however have a streamlined base which tends to be lighter resulting in a more naturally feeling denture. In terms of stability, BPS suction dentures combine the thoroughly tested processes of BPS with SEMCD Dentures during the impression and fabrication process to create perfectly fitting dentures that offer air-tight seals. Conventional dentures on the other hand often sit on top of the bone and offer little to no stability unless implants or adhesives are used to keep them in place.

How are Lower Suction Dentures Made?

A mandibular suction effective denture is fabricated in much the same way as other BPS dentures in the lab, however the impression process is what makes SEMCD dentures truly unique. Patients who currently use a conventional denture will go through an initial assessment where their dental prosthetist will examine their current dentures, ask about their denture wearing experience and determine if the patient would benefit from changing to BPS suction dentures. A treatment plan will then be formulated and discussed with the patient.

The SEMCD denture process starts with a unique impression method where the soft tissue and bony structures are recorded to ensure greater accuracy and a better fit. While the patient still has the impression device in their mouth, the patient will be asked to make specific movements and sounds with their mouth, which are then captured by the impression material. It is this unique lower suction denture technique that gives SEMCD dentures their perfect fit and ultimately achieves the suction necessary to keep them in place. Once the impressions have been made, they will be sent off to the lab for fabrication and the patient will later be called for a try-in. The Dentures will be checked for balance and further adjustments may need to be made depending on the patient.

Are Lower Suction Dentures for You?

If you’ve struggled with loose fitting bottom dentures that are affecting the way you eat, talk, laugh and smile, changing to lower suction dentures will often show immediate benefits to most patients. Studies have found that Dr. Abe SEMCD Dentures will achieve effective suction in 80% of patients and patients that fail to achieve effective suction will still have a far superior denture compared to a conventional design. BPS Suction dentures utilise high-end materials, improved impression taking techniques, and a compact design to ensure a better fit for all patients. While SEMCD Dentures were initially developed to solve lower denture problems, they are also readily available for upper dentures. Patients will often find that SEMCD upper dentures improve their overall comfort and functionality when compared to that of their conventional dentures. Best of all, SEMCD Dentures require no surgery, implants or adhesives!
